Buoyancy Engine
The Design Overview
The buoyancy engine was a separate competition subsystem designed for the MATE UROV competition. It follows a vertical movement while collecting and visualizing underwater depth data. The system uses three connected syringes actuated by a linear actuator to change the vehicle’s displacement and therefore its buoyancy. As the actuator moves, the syringes draw in or expel water, allowing the vehicle to adjust its position in the water column. This CAD model showcases the first prototype of the main housing idea for the buoyancy engine components.
