Project Timeline

OVERVIEW

Designed and prototyped a monolithic skeg rudder optimized for high turning performance and minimal hydrodynamic drag. By utilizing a compliant design, the rudder achieves a seamless, cambered airfoil shape during deflection, avoiding the flow separation and drag penalties associated with traditional hinged surfaces. The project took advantage of 3D-printable geometries to create a "living hinge" structure that maintains a smooth laminar profile across its entire range of motion, significantly improving steering efficiency in marine environments.
