OVERVIEW

Designed and validated a monolithic rowing mechanism using compliant linkages to eliminate . The objective was to design a compliant mechanism which converted a reciprocating linear input motion into a cyclical output path which captures the ideal path of a rowing oar handle. Additionally, the elastic nature of the compliant linkages was used to lower the peak input power required of the actuator and act as a load leveler. The prototype was manufactured using FDM 3D printing and was optimised for cyclical fatigue.
