Project Timeline

May 2025 - Current

OVERVIEW

The STEAM Club has been working with Fairfax County to design new, tactile signs that display natural elements such as plants, animals, and other educational aspects of nature to put on the new park signs! So far, we have designed tactile signs that display lichen, poison ivy, a percussion frog, the frog life cycle, a millstone, a passalidae beetle, and a salamander. The STEAM Club has visited many parks across Fairfax County and Manassas to fully understand these specimen so we can display them accurately. Utilizing the Fab Lab's 3D scanning technology, we were able to obtain a detailed and textured 3D print of half of these elements. 3D sculpting software was also utilized to smooth over details and add lettering.

HighlightS

Civil Engineering Student

I am a dedicated and driven student at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) currently pursuing an Associate's Degree in Engineering. I plan to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech. As the President of the STEAM Club at NOVA, I work on various hands-on engineering projects and help foster a community for other students to learn applicable engineering skills.
