Project Timeline

Oct 2023 - Nov-2023

OVERVIEW

Fabricated, and tested a custom water pump. The project involved modeling the pump's components in SolidWorks, creating the pump by using a milling machine to drill required holes into the faceplate and body, and assembling the final device. The assembled pump was then tested to evaluate performance of its flow rate, pump head, and system efficiency.

HighlightS

  • Executed the full mechanical design cycle by modeling pump parts in SolidWorks, using a milling machine to fabricate the faceplate and body, and assembling the final pump.
  • Initiated an experimental testing protocol to measure pump performance, collecting water volume over a twenty-second period at various valve openings to calculate flow rate and velocity.
  • Analyzed raw data to calculate system efficiency, determining a peak efficiency of 3.42% at a pump head of 0.75 m.
  • Established maximum performance metrics for the pump, achieving a maximum pump head of 1.15 m and a peak flow rate of 1.005 L/m.
