OVERVIEW

I modeled the laminar flow distribution using Ansys Fluent of an existing channel design based off of microfluidic channels. I modeled new channel designs to improve flow using SolidWorks and once again simulated the flow pathlines with Ansys. The channel CAD models were used to print channel molds and I assisted with the fabrication of the actual channels by synthesizing PDMS, a silicon polymer. I assisted in the fabrication of carbon electrodes and their integration with the PDMS channels to allow for selective electrodeposition of rare earth metals. I contributed to experiments aimed to extract transition metals from black mass to help with battery recycling by synthesizing solvent mixtures to help capture the targeted elements and by aiding with the tip sonication of the mixtures.
