OVERVIEW

I tested the thermal distribution of a hypersonic concept vehicle benchtop model by wrapping a heat tape around the model and in other instances by using a heat gun and monitoring the heat using both an infrared camera and a set of thermistors. I operated the infrared camera and used MATLAB to record the corresponding temperature readings and to process the thermistor data. I calibrated the thermistors by submerging them in hot water recording their resistivity readings using LabVIEW and comparing it to the corresponding values from a high precision thermometer until the water reached room temperature. I completed calibration curve for the thermistors using MATLAB. I also designed a pitot probe that could be integrated into an ICP torch using SolidWorks.
