Project Title: Load Analysis on an Airplane Landing Gear (Fixed Cantilever)
Timeline: 2 months
Team: Group project (work split evenly)
My focus: Material selection + improvement recommendations
Summary:
Conducted shear, bending, and dynamic load analysis on a small aircraft fixed cantilever landing gear using kinematic/dynamics methods to identify critical reaction forces and likely failure modes, then proposed a retrofit-feasible improvement.
Problem:
Break down which forces act on a cantilever landing gear during operation/landing and determine what failure mode is most likely (e.g., yielding vs fatigue), then improve safety while keeping the solution practical.
Result highlight:
Selected a material-based retrofit improvement that delivered ~22% better yielding safety, with estimated stress kept below the material’s fatigue limit (theoretical).
