Twin 5000 L Vessel Support Platform

OVERVIEW

Role Responsibility: Safety Mechanical Design Engineer. Designed and delivered a heavy-duty support platform for two 5 000 L stainless-steel process vessels in a food-grade environment. The project involved full lifecycle engineering — from site survey and concept modelling through fabrication and installation — ensuring stability, accessibility, and compliance with hygienic design standards.

Key Contributions:

Structural Integrity: Verified platform strength and stiffness using FEA in ANSYS, confirming safe operation under full load conditions.

Modular Design: Developed a bolt-together structure enabling fast on-site assembly and easy maintenance.

Sheet Metal Optimization: Applied sheet-metal modelling and weldment tools in SOLIDWORKS to create lightweight, fabricator-friendly parts.

DFM & Fabrication: Produced detailed drawings with cut lists, weld callouts, and manufacturing notes to minimize rework.

Outcome: Delivered a robust, hygienic, and cost-effective support structure that met all safety and operational requirements.



Key Skills Demonstrated:

  1. Sheet Metal Design and Fabrication - Created modular ladder and cage components using SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal to enable precise flat-pattern fabrication. Optimized design for efficient laser cutting, folding, and assembly.
  2. Structural and Safety Engineering - Verified compliance with working-at-height regulations and internal access standards. Designed the cat ladder interfaces for bund wall and platform mounting.
  3. CAD and Documentation - Produced 3D models, fabrication drawings, and exploded-assembly documentation.
  4. Compliance and Risk Management - Authored RAMS to ensure safe installation and maintenance. Delivered designs meeting BS EN ISO 14122 requirements.
  5. Delivered a safe, modular access system improving operator safety and reducing installation time.
