OVERVIEW

For IFD Technologies, I designed a tool which allows line workers to replace TempPatrol sensors which are mounted on energized transformers. The tool is attached to a hot stick universal socket adapter and uses a garter spring mechanism to retain and replace the sensors.

Additional Details

We required a tool which could be mounted onto hot-sticks so that line workers could replace our sensor without taking an outage. While an initial prototype had been made before I arrived at the company, it had only briefly been looked at. I individually made prototypes and tested to optimize the design. I greatly improved the tool’s retention of the sensor and improved machinability to reduce cost by 10%. It has yet to be machined.
