OVERVIEW

Team Size: 5 Overview: Given motors, aluminium profile and a G-Code controller, a simple version of a CNC machine was to be developed. It was required to have full 3-axis movement and have that movement be an accurate representation of the G-Code it was given, therefore have no drift or random movement outliers. Challenges: - Motor layout/drive: One of the key decisions made during the project was selecting where the motors were going to go, alongside with how they would drive the system (i.e. belts or direct drive?). In the end we opted for direct drive to remove any possible backlash/slipping caused by a pulley. - Structure design: Designing an effective CNC structure would ensure that there would be a good ratio of overall size to working platform size.
