OVERVIEW

This project focused on the 3D design and theoretical evaluation of an Archimedes screw wind turbine as a potential alternative energy source for mass-produced residential homes. The goal was to explore how a nontraditional turbine design could be adapted for small-scale, residential use, with an emphasis on conceptual performance rather than physical testing. The turbine was designed using CAD software, with attention given to overall geometry, size, and mechanical feasibility. Key design factors such as screw pitch, diameter, and blade shape were selected based on theoretical airflow interaction and ease of manufacturing. Throughout the design process, changes were made iteratively to improve the practicality of the design and better reflect how it could realistically be implemented in a residential setting. In addition to the 3D modeling work, the project involved applying fluid mechanics and energy conversion concepts to discuss how the turbine might perform under typical residential wind conditions. Theoretical advantages and limitations were evaluated, including expected efficiency, low-speed wind performance, and general system constraints. The project emphasized using engineering theory to support design decisions and to understand the trade-offs involved in adapting alternative energy systems for everyday use.
