Project Timeline

Jul 2024 - Jan-2025

OVERVIEW

Role: Lead R&D Mechanical Engineer Lead quality improvement efforts on existing coffee maker SKUs to add features and enhance user experience. This product hit the market in April 2025 and is projected to generate over one hundred thousand dollars worth of revenue for the company. We integrated and optimized new components into the existing mechanical system to improve performance and improve the quality of outputs. Created, in collaboration with control system engineers, a patent-pending dynamic algorithm to enhance the machine's performance, utilizing Python and Arduino scripts to optimize the performance before embedding it in the software of the machine. Developed temperature and pump control sequence for new feature and integrated it into an existing system. Worked with cross-functional teams to ensure the project was completed efficiently and progress was aligned with the timeline.

HighlightS

  • Developed and validated new component impacts on coffee quality and provided improvements to software, with collaboration from the control systems engineers, to produce higher quality outputs.
  • Integrated a new component, which required the development of a patent-pending algorithm to enhance the consumer experience
  • Mentor and manage co-ops to guide them for their own growth and the growth of the project

Additional Details

Role: Lead R&D Mechanical Engineer

  • Designed a patent-pending dynamic algorithm to control a new component that improves machine performance
    • Utilized Arduino code and PCBA to test and validate component performance
    • Completed multiple iterations of the algorithm before implementing it into the main software for further testing
    • Created a robust, responsive algorithm that increases versatility and accuracy
  • Designed and integrated components into an existing system to provide quality improvements
    • Created test rigs and software, with the aid of cross-functional teams, to ensure a robust component was selected
    • Completed extensive testing to validate that the introduction of the new component either maintained or improved mechanical functionality and output quality
  • Developed temperature and pump control sequence for a new feature and integrated it into an existing system
    • Aided in the development and integration of an additional beverage style on the machines
  • Collaborated with international teams
  • Worked with JIRA to properly capture and track all issues found during development
  • Presented to key stakeholders and leadership to provide insight into the project's progress
